This is done using a (service, tool) called Dropbox. Drop is a way you can share your files and access to them anytime, anywhere you want. Dropbox gives you free 2GB of storage, and if you want more storage space you can buy.
Dropbox has it’s own applications available for your Android, IOS, Windows, Linux and MacOS devices. So you don’t have to access the website each time you want to access your files. You can use the application.
So, at this point I’ll assume that you have setup your printer with your computer and you have created a Dropbox account. This works for MacOS, Linux and Windows. I’m gonna explain how to do it on both Windows and MacOS.
Windows
- Download this zip file (ePrint.zip) and extract the file onto your desktop.
- Now you’ll see a script file on your desktop. Run that file and it will create a folder “PrintQueue” in your called Dropbox directory.
- You need to run this script each time you restart your computer. So copy the script file into your Startup folder. You can do this:
- by going to Start menu and search for Startup
- right-click the folder and click open
- now paste the file into that folder
MacOS
- Create a folder manually on your Dropbox directory. You can name it anything you want. In my case I’m naming it “PrintQueue”.
- Now open Automator (hit Command key + Space, and type Automator)
- Create a folder action
- Now on the toolbar you’ll find a search box. Search for “Print Finder Items” and drag it into the workflow next to the Library.
- Again do a search for “Move Finder Items To Trash” , and drag that into the workflow.
- Goto File > Save… and save it by any name you want. In my case I’m calling it ePrint
Now what’s gonna happen is, whenever you move a file into the “PrintQueue” in the Dropbox folder, your computer will send that file to the printer queue.
